By 1985 the 'industrial' sound was becoming tedious and a more optimistic note was in the air. The album is actually a compilation of EPs from Canada and the UK that was assembled for Australia - a high point in SH's commercial existence. Stretcher is marked by the a sound that defines that era - the DX7 synthesiser! It marrs a fairly lame version of Dead Eyes that was recorded for Canada but works well on Big Blue Is Back - the first recording by SH that uses MIDI. But here also the Korg Modular System that first appears on CSH reaches a crux on the track Spurned. Still it is hardly a normal album and gained much comment at the time - especially the pygmy sample on Oscar's Grind! |

Stretcher (1985) 12"
Stretcher (1995)Not an official release, more a favour from Tom Ellard to people on the Severed Heads mailing list who wanted to obtain early material. Loosely based on the 1985 release of Stretcher.
